Strong political support for Norstec welcome and significant

4 October 2012

Commenting on the publication of new details regarding Norstec [1], a network of manufacturers, developers, supply-chain firms, researchers and industry-bodies centred around the deployment of offshore wind in the northern seas, WWF said that it was important that the initiative was receiving strong political support.

Nick Molho, head of energy policy at WWF-UK, said: “It’s great to hear such warm words from the Prime Minister about the contribution renewable energy can make to our new industrial revolution. The UK is a world leader in offshore wind technology, and the North Seas are an opportunity too good to miss. David Cameron and Ed Davey agree that renewable energy is a key part of our energy future, creating jobs and growth in the process.

“The Prime Minister is also quite right in saying that this won’t happen without government working closely with the industry. The upcoming Energy Bill must show that the UK is committed to the renewable energy sector for the long term.”
