This report explains the concept of the ecological footprint and how it can be used by local authorities to promote sustainable development. Ecological footprint is an important tool for quantifying the environmental impact of a region or community. By measuring consumption of resources rather than pollution, footprint analysis brings home the need to consider sustainable development when making individual and collective decisions.
