Why WWF engages with business and industry

Industry supplies the huge range of goods and services we all demand to sustain our comfortable and convenient lifestyles. Satisfying this ever-growing consumer demand has impacts on biodiversity, natural resources such as energy and water, and on raw materials such as oil and minerals. It also creates pollution and waste.
WWF is convinced that the business community offers one of the most effective routes to finding sustainable solutions to the world's pressing environmental challenges. We believe our mission can be achieved to maximum effect by working together with business people and by combining the influence, expertise and knowledge of both business and WWF.

An important role for WWF is also to challenge poor environmental practices and policies, where more sustainable alternatives exist.

The benefits are mutual. Companies can secure environmental expertise and an understanding of society's changing expectations. WWF has much to gain from a better knowledge of how business works, and the problems industry faces in minimising environmental damage.

Together, we will find innovative solutions to the world's environmental problems.

Our mission
WWF's mission is to stop the degradation of the planet's natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature.
