Contaminated Britain

As part WWF-UK's Chemicals and Health Campaign, we have conducted four biomonitoring surveys of human blood, to identify hazardous man-made chemicals that contaminate our bodies.
  • Our biomonitoring survey tested 155 individuals from different parts of the country
  • The second, 'Contamination: the next generation' investigated the contamination of three generations of seven UK families.
  • We also tested eight celebrities from the worlds of TV, sport and cooking.
  • The fourth and most disturbing demonstrated that unborn babies are being contaminated in the womb.
As well as analysing blood, in May this year we launched an online survey called "Indecent Exposure" to provide people with an estimate of their exposure to man-made chemicals, through a series of questions regarding lifestyle, diet and use of consumer products.
