Tell Tony Blair to put people and wildlife before industry profits.

The European Union is currently debating a new regulation which has the potential to phase out the most hazardous chemicals in favour or safer alternatives.

For the next six months the UK will take its turn as "President" of the European Union which means that our Prime Minister, Tony Blair, will play an important role in securing this regulation.

We are being subjected to an uncontrolled and dangerous global experiment.

• Every year, thousands of tonnes of chemicals - a significant proportion of which have never been tested for safety - are used in everyday products such as TV's, soft furnishings, toiletries, and cleaning agents.
• Over the last 50 years man has created around 80,000 new chemicals, many of which have escaped into the environment and been absorbed by animals and humans.
• As many as 300 man-made chemicals have been found in the bodies of humans and animals.
• Some chemicals now pollute remote areas such as the Arctic, threatening polar bears, whales and the indigenous Inuit people.
• Even unborn babies and animals can be affected by chemicals passed on from their mothers.
• Despite the hazards, chemical-manufacturing companies are not required to prove that their products are safe before they are used or sold.

Urge Tony Blair to use his leadership in Europe to stop us, our children, our wildlife and our environment being exposed to hazardous man-made chemicals.
