WDA shatters hopes for green housing development
The Welsh Development Agency (WDA) is failing to help deliver the National Assembly for Wales' commitments to increasing renewable energy technologies and sustainable homes in Wales.
The WDA is standing in the way of what has been described as the "first green powered community in Wales" on the Ely Bridge site in Cardiff, which could lead the way for the whole of Wales.
"It is disappointing that the planning application led by the WDA for a new housing development on the Ely Bridge site will do little to help meet the Assembly's targets as set out in its Action Plan," said Morgan Parry, Head of WWF Cymru.
"The National Assembly for Wales has succeeded in taking great strides to promote sustainable development in Wales and internationally,"
The planning application for 1,000 homes on the Ely Bridge site has been submitted to Cardiff Council, by the London based consultant Llewelyn Davies on behalf of the WDA. Both WWF Cymru and the Welsh School of Architecture (WSA) have studied the application and are disappointed that it falls short of the expectation to construct the first zero carbon energy community in Wales. It was also hoped that the project would provide the first One Planet Living community in Wales.
"It is imperative that this opportunity to develop a groundbreaking and innovative scheme should not be missed. Wales needs to show that it means business with its duty towards sustainable development and this particularly applies to the construction industry as we aspire to more sustainable ways of living," said Phil Jones, Head of WSA.
WDA yn chwalu gobeithion am gymuned ynni gwyrdd
Nid yw Awdurdod Datblygu Cymru (WDA) yn helpu i wireddu ymrwymiadau Cynulliad Cenedlaethol Cymru i gynyddu technolegau ynni adnewyddadwy a chartrefi cynaladwy yng Nghymru, medd WWF Cymru.
Mae WWF Cymru yn credu bod y WDA yn rhwystro yr hyn a ddisgrifiwyd fel "cymuned ynni gwyrdd gyntaf Cymru" ar safle Pont Trel&aaute;i yng Nghaerdydd.
"Ni fydd y cais cynllunio dan arweiniad y WDA am ddatblygiad tai newydd ar safle Pont Trel&aaute;i yn gwneud llawer i helpu i gyrraedd targedau'r Cynulliad a nodir yn ei Gynllun Gweithredu, ac mae hynny'n siom fawr. Mae Cynulliad Cenedlaethol Cymru wedi llwyddo i gymryd camau breision wrth hybu datblygiad cynaladwy yng Nghymru ac yn rhyngwladol," meddai Morgan Parry, Pennaeth WWF Cymru.
Mae'r cais cynllunio am 1,000 o gartrefi ar safle Pont Trel&aaute;i wedi cael ei gyflwyno i Gyngor Caerdydd gan yr ymgynghorydd o Lundain, Llewelyn Davies, ar ran y WDA. Mae WWF Cymru ac Ysgol Bensaernïaeth Cymru wedi astudio'r cais ac yn siomedig nad yw'n cyflawni'r disgwyl mai hon fyddai'r gymuned gyntaf yng Nghymru na fyddai'n gollwng dim carbon ynni. Gobeithiwyd hefyd y byddai'r prosiect yn darpau'r gymuned Byw Un Blaned gyntag yng Nghymru.
"Rhaid peidio &acrirc; methu'r cyfle hwn i ddatblygu cynllun arloesol sy'n torri tir newydd. Mae angen i Gymru ddangos ei bod o ddifrif ynghylch ei dyletswydd tuag at ddatblygiad cynaladwy ac mae hyn yn arbennig o berthnasol i'r diwydiant adeiladu wrth i ni geisio ffyrdd mwy cynaladwy o fyw," meddai Phil Jones, Pennaeth Ysgol Bensaernïaeth Cymru.
