Henson backs WWF's green Christmas initiative

1 December 2005
Welsh rugby star Gavin Henson is proving that being green can be a chic and smart lifestyle choice.
Commenting on WWF Cymru's guide Gavin Henson said: "I am pleased to support WWF Cymru's Pocket Green Guide. Going for a green Christmas doesn't
mean compromising on quality; you can buy loads of really great environmentally friendly gifts without breaking the bank."

"The guide is full of really useful tips not only for Christmas but also on where to buy organic food, ways to reduce energy at home and keep bills down as well as recycling. I have recently installed energy efficient bulbs in my home and I always prefer organic produce as it's healthier and better for the environment."

To coincide with the launch of the guide WWF Cymru commissioned consumer research into Welsh people's views on buying environmentally friendly gifts this Christmas. According to the poll 89 per cent of Welsh people who will consider buying environmentally friendly gifts this Christmas say it's because they want to tackle global problems such as climate change.

"Our survey results demonstrate that consumers in Wales recognise that what they buy has an impact on the environment and as a result they want to do more to tackle global problems such as climate change, species loss and destruction of the world's forests," said Morgan Parry, Head of WWF Cymru.

"This guide identifies ways that consumers can help reduce their 'ecological footprint' in key areas such as food, energy in their homes and waste."
