A cruise across the Severn Estuary

12 June 2006
Members of the public were invited to join a special cruise setting off from Penarth Pier to Clevedon on Thursday 8th June aboard the paddle steamer Waverly.
The Severn Wonders cruise followed on from the first ever international conference to highlight major issues facing the Severn Estuary and looked at how Government legislation could help protect the estuary.

On board the cruise people enjoyed high tea on the high sea with AM's, MP's and other interest groups and experienced displays and commentary of what makes the estuary so special.

Morgan Parry, Head of WWF Cymru said, "We are proud to have supported the Severn Estuary Partnership at these events. We need sustained public pressure on Government to ensure a Marine Bill becomes law if future generations are able to enjoy this special environment."

The cruise and conference was a culmination of a three-week Severn Wonders Festival, where over 40 events involving the public took place on sides of the estuary.
