Fish for sustainable living
22 June 2007
Two Welsh chefs have supported WWF Cymru's drive to encourage people to get cooking using fish and seafood which have the MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) logo. Welsh TV chef Dudley Newberry and Ross Burden have supplied a range of recipes using sustainably caught fish and seafood to WWF Cymru who will be promoting these at the launch of Pembrokeshire Fish Week tomorrow (Saturday, June 23rd).
Promoting and encouraging people to purchase MSC fish and seafood forms part of WWF Cymru's campaign to call for a Marine Act to better protect Wales' amazing coasts and marine wildlife.
There will be an opportunity for visitors to pick up the chef's recipes at WWF Cymru's display where they can also discover more about MSC fish and get tips from WWF Cymru's experts on how to lead more sustainable lifestyles.
Dr Iwan Ball, Marine Policy Officer for WWF Cymru, explains how everyone can do their bit;
"By making just a few changes to our lifestyles such as choosing local fish products and taking litter home with us from the beach, we can dramatically improve the state of our seas and coasts. But, most importantly, the responsibility for our seas' welfare lies in the hands of politicians. The Welsh Assembly Government must make sure the new Marine Act protects Wales' wildlife AND sustains our coastal communities."
This will be the eighth Pembrokeshire Fish Week. People come from all over to celebrate Pembrokeshire's wonderful fish and seafood and its spectacular coastline. The week is packed full of family-friendly activities based around the coast and waterway, including cookery demonstrations, fishing competitions, boat trip, children's workshops plus much more.
