Marathon man Jim sprints for WWF
He may not have been as speedy as Paula Radcliffe, but WWF Northern Ireland's Jim Kitchen completed the 2003 Flora London Marathon in a respectable 4 hours and 45 minutes, raising more than £3,000 for WWF in the process.
Six months of intensive training allowed Whitehead man Jim to sprint across the finishing line after a gruelling 26 miles. "Running the Flora London Marathon has been both a physical and a personal achievement," he said. "It was made much easier thanks to all the words of encouragement via e-mail and telephone, as well as the crowds shouting support from the streets of London. The generosity of those who sponsored me means that more than £3,000 will help fund WWF's valuable work in protecting endangered species, spaces and natural resources."
Donations to Jim's marathon appeal can be made online until the end of April 2003, using the link opposite. Alternatively, cheques, made payable to WWF can be posted to WWF Northern Ireland, 13 West Street Carrickfergus, Co. Antrim BT38 7AR.
