Environmental Report 2007

WWF's mission is to stop the degradation of the planet's natural environment and build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature. To achieve this on a global scale it is inevitable that we have an impact on the environment. However, we are dedicated to reducing this impact to an absolute minimum.
To help us achieve this, WWF-UK has an environmental policy and an environmental management system (EMS). In particular, we monitor staff business travel, energy consumption, water waste and purchasing.

This report outlines our environmental performance in these areas during the 12 months from 1 July 2006 to 30 June 2007. To minimise the environmental and financial costs associated with printing, our Environmental Report is only available online. To track our performance against previous years, download our earlier Environmental Reports as PDF files.

If you have any comments about this report, or suggestions on how we could improve our environmental reporting, please e-mail us at ems@wwf.org.uk

An overview of WWF-UK's work during the reporting period can be found in our Annual Review.

Caroline Emerton, WWF-UK's Director of Resources, is the executive responsible for the running of the Environmental Steering Group (ESG) which meets regularly to oversee the running of the EMS to ensure our continued adherence to our environmental policy and to WWF's principles with regard to the environment.

Our ESG also aims to reduce our impact on the environment while still maintaining our ability to deliver our charitable aims and the support services to fund and administer them.

During the year, the WWF-UK's Environmental Team was asked to advise and assist a number of other organisations – including other offices in the WWF network, and other NGOs, government and commercial companies.

We gave advice on reducing carbon emissions from a variety of sources, especially travel, recycling, carbon offsetting and generally adopting a more environmentally sustainable mode of operating.
