Amur leopards caught on camera

There are so few Amur leopards left that many have names. These are some that have been caught on film by WWF camera traps.

Narva, female Amur leopard

Narva

She's the only female in the southern camera trap area. There are cliffs, caves and rock falls here which are good for raising kittens, but prey is scarce. However, she seems to have learnt to stalk Roe deer in cane thickets, and kitten tracks have been seen near her hunting grounds. As a breeding female, she is vital to the future of her species.

Sukhorechenskii, a young male Amur leopard

Sukhorechenskii

This young male's territory includes a lot of burnt out forest and open meadows, which makes prey scarce for him. However, there's a female here - Narva - and so he's sticking around for now.

Barabashevskii, male Amur leopard

Barabashevskii

A real night owl - only spotted twice before sunset last year. He controls a vast area, and so he doesn't stay long in any one place. He needs to continually mark his territory to discourage upstart young males from setting up camp in his home range.
