One in Five Challenge Launch
One in Five Challenge Launch Event
WWF’s One in Five Challenge was officially launched on 20 July 2009, and four founding members announced: Capgemini, Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), Marks & Spencer and Vodafone UK.
The launch event also allowed over 40 delegates to take part in a telepresence session, courtesy of Tata Communications public Telepresence room at the Crowne Plaza St James, London, linking with WWF Scotland in Cisco’s office at Eurocentral, near Motherwell.
Keynote speeches – from Theresa Villiers MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Transport, David Nussbaum, WWF’s CEO, and Christine Hodgson, CEO of Technology Services, North West Europe and Chair of Capgemini UK’s Sustainability Board – all highlighted the potential for businesses to fly less without losing any edge or productivity.
For Capgemini, cutting business travel will significantly reduce the company’s carbon footprint – and introducing alternatives to business travel, like video-conferencing and working from home, is much better for the work-life balance of their employees.
