50 kilometres in 20 hours- Kate does it for the western gray whales

  • This was more than a Sunday swim, this was a feat of incredible determination, all in the name of the western gray whales. With only around 130 western gray whales left, they are on the brink of disappearing forever. Kate Pearson, WWF Scotland's Fundraising Manager, swam an incredible 50km - that's 2942 lengths of her local pool - in order to help protect this critically endangered species.
  • "Losing even a few of these could mean the end for the population. I decided to do something out of the ordinary to show people how important it is to protect this endangered species and since it's WWF's 50th anniversary, swimming 50km seemed like a good idea!", she said.
  • Kate trained for three months before the event. She said "Swimming 50km was not the easiest thing I've ever done - there were many times in the pool when I thought about giving up. However I had a huge amount of support from my friends, family and colleagues, and this kept me going. I'm so glad I managed raise awareness of the plight of these lovely mammals, and I'm so grateful to everyone who donated.

Kate is one of millions of incredible people around the world who are doing their bit to help protect the natural world we live in. Why not tell us your story?
