WWF welcomes Government waste pledges

Commenting on the announcement on waste by the Scottish Government, WWF Scotland's Acting Director Dr. Dan Barlow said:
"We commend the Government's commitment to focus on cutting waste and further increasing our recycling as the central plank of a move towards a zero-waste Scotland.
"Setting a target to recycle 50% of Scotland's waste by 2013 is to be commended and will help Scotland build on the good progress made in increasing our recycling rates over the past decade - and ensure we catch up with levels of recycling found elsewhere in Europe."
Continued Dr. Barlow: "The Government is right to heed the call of WWF and others to rule out proposals for large scale mass-burn incineration, recognising the risk that this would inhibit waste prevention and recycling."
"Government and local authorities now need to work together to realise this vision. In addition, all of us can take action to reduce the waste we produce and recycle where possible to reduce our own footprint."
