Climate Change Bill: three weeks left to have your say

Friday 4 April 2008
With three weeks to go until the end of the Scottish Government's consultation on a Scottish climate change bill, WWF is calling on the people of Scotland to take the opportunity to have their say on what could be the most important piece of legislation in a generation. The deadline for consultation responses to the Climate Change (Scotland) Bill is Wednesday 23rd April.
For the past two months WWF Scotland has been running a national campaign encouraging people to show their support for strong climate legislation, by completing postcards or an online action. The campaign, which has included a nationwide tour of Scottish city centres and farmers' markets, has so far helped to generate almost 5000 responses from members of the public.

To help further boost the number of responses before the consultation deadline, this week the environmental charity unveiled a national advertising campaign which includes billboards and posters on buses and trains.

Dr Dan Barlow, WWF Scotland Acting Director said:

"As a nation Scotland could lead the way in tackling climate change. Already we've helped enable almost 5000 members of the public to add their support to calls for a strong Scottish climate bill. The tremendous response we have received on our tour around Scotland reflects both high levels of public awareness on climate change and recognition of the role that real political leadership on this issue here in Scotland can play in tackling this global problem.

"We have a once-in-a lifetime opportunity to secure a strong climate change bill and I urge anyone, no matter where they live in Scotland, to visit our website to find out how they can and help back a strong Scottish climate change bill."

After visiting five of Scotland's cities with a climate change stall complete with polar bear character and free energy-saving light-bulbs, Saturday (5th April) WWF will be in Dundee city centre and the following Saturday (12th April), in Inverness.
