Panda delivers your Votes for Earth to Ed Miliband

10 December 2009

Heads were certainly turned as a giant panda arrived at the Department of Energy and Climate Change on the eve of Ed Miliband’s departure for Copenhagen, to deliver your Vote Earth sign-ups.

It’s not every day that a giant wooden panda walks the streets of London, but if you were in Westminster on Thursday you’d have seen just that.

Our Vote Earth petition expressed the call of 25,916 of you for a fair, ambitious and binding global climate deal to be made in Copenhagen.

A small group of WWF campaigners, accompanying the giant panda, delivered that message to Climate Change Secretary Ed Miliband. It demands a fair and binding global climate deal to keep temperature rise below 2°C, with rich countries making commitments to reduce emissions by at least 40% by 2020 – and also to provide the finance that developing countries need to develop cleanly and deal with the impacts of climate change.

The signatures on the Vote Earth petition will also be added to the global Vote for Earth, which will be presented during Earth Hour Copenhagen on 16 December. The citizens of Copenhagen will join together in a symbolic act to highlight the millions of people around the world calling for action on climate change.
