Welcome to Cymru Siren - the first ever newsletter from WWF Cymru!

Introduction
WWF is the world's largest and most experienced conservation organisation, a truly amazing global network with 52 offices working in more than 90 countries. To achieve our many successes, we rely on the backing of nearly five million supporters – 15,000 of whom are in Wales.
Our Welsh office consists of a small team of highly dedicated staff, campaigning for environmental protection and proposing social and economic solutions to some of the most urgent problems of the day, such as climate change.

This summer, WWF Cymru took part in a major festival around the Severn Estuary, celebrating the natural wonders of our biggest river but also warning about the threats to it. Human economic activity has caused the climate to change, so we must develop non-polluting renewable energy. The tides in the Severn Estuary could generate huge amounts of power, but WWF believes this can be done without changing the natural balance of this internationally important habitat.

We are also advising the Welsh Assembly Government on the best way to protect and manage our marine environment – WWF was instrumental in persuading the UK government that new laws were needed to better protect our coasts and seas. We work closely with partners: we'll be at the Royal Welsh Show with the National Federation of Women's Institutes, and at the National Eisteddfod in Swansea with the Stop Climate Chaos coalition.

We hope to see you at one of these events.
