Go green with the WI
Go green with the WI
From cycling in the rain to smelly compost bins – nobody said going green would be entirely problem-free. But it's a challenge that the Women's Institute (WI) is encouraging ordinary members of the public to take on.
More than 5,000 people are already on board the WI's Carbon Challenge. Over 5% of those registered are from Wales, and they have each pledged to reduce their carbon footprints by 20%. If they all meet their targets, that's a reduction in CO2 of some 10,000 tonnes – enough to fill around 10,000 hot air balloons!
Supported by Marks & Spencer, the Challenge uses an online carbon footprint calculator designed by WWF. Participants; simply log on at wi.footprint.wwf.org.uk and answer a series of questions about their day-to-day life, in order to receive tailored tips on how to reduce their environmental impact.
The Carbon Challenge participants come from all walks of life, from busy mums, young urbanites and the over 50s, to the already eco-minded.
