One Planet Future

You have started on a journey to becoming One Planet champions, committed to building a One Planet Future where humans live in harmony with nature on a thriving, green planet. Now it's time to celebrate what you've achieved, tell everyone about it, and build momentum for future activities. Here are some ideas...

Celebrate - party time

  • Hold 'habitat parties' for parents and friends, displaying your creative efforts.
  • Plan party food and drink that is less likely to include ingredients such as palm oil – avoid processed foods.
  • Try to avoid waste – e.g. make food rather than buying ready-made items; put them in reusable containers; choose finger-food or use plastic or china plates rather than disposable ones; make spicy potato wedges instead of buying crisps.
  • Share tips on saving energy at home. Challenge your parents and friends to pledge to reduce energy, waste or deforestation.

Perform

  • From October you will be able to download the One Planet Future musical from our One Planet Schools website – and perform it (or selected songs) to friends, family or the wider community.
  • Perform plays or shadow puppet shows that tell an environmental story.
  • Hold a 'reduce, reuse and recycle' fashion show to bring the issue to life.
  • Take photos or make short films about environmental issues in your area and/or work you have done for the One Planet Challenge project. Share them with your audience and on the One Planet Challenge website.

Showcase

  • Show the WWF film One Planet Future to set the scene for your One Planet Challenge work.
  • Hold a gallery night to showcase your art work, habitat boxes, posters, mosaics and campaigning efforts.
  • Invite your local MP to your unit to show them how committed you are to a One Planet Future.
  • Invite your local press to see your work, contact your local PR Advisor or see the help and support section on the Changing the World website on how to do this.
  • Hold a recycle or 'Swap-it' event.
  • Older girls: Work out your Ecological Footprint and display the result on an outline of one of your own feet. Combine all the foot shapes in a display, with an explanation of what 'ecological footprint' means. Younger girls: use the footprint survey in the 'Wildlife and the energy we use' session and display the results in the same way.
  • Hold a Local Produce Food Tasting Evening – showcase some seasonal recipes.
  • Cook dishes from your unit's Recipe Book and invite people along to a banquet! You might give out or sell copies of the book, putting the proceeds to a good use.
  • Go for a walk and have a no waste picnic.
  • Hold a BBQ for family and friends using locally sourced food and sustainably produced charcoal.
