One Planet Local

In the UK, we import many foods, often to ensure we have certain fruits and vegetables out of season – for example, soft fruits from South America or apples from New Zealand. This has a global impact, as traditional mixed farms and farming methods have been replaced in many parts of the world by high intensity farming. This has an effect on both the land and wildlife: habitats have been destroyed and thousands of species lost. 'One Planet Local' seeks to celebrate local and seasonal produce, and encourages you to value the British countryside and our UK species.
