Holiday footprinting - a practical tool for responsible tourism
Best Foot Forward and WWF-UK, January 2002

This report presents ecological 'footprinting' as a means for tour operators to estimate the environmental impact of their holiday products, and as a means of communicating the environmental impacts of their products to interested stakeholders within a wider sustainability framework. The report analyses two package holidays to two destinations in the Mediterranean - Cyprus and Majorca; provides an estimate of their relative sustainability; and presents a number of scenarios for lessening the ecological footprint of the holidays. A 'live' footprint tool that allows users to input their own data and observe the effect of potential improvement scenarios, is also available.

    Tourism certification
    Synergy and WWF-UK, 2000

This is an analysis of a selection of tourism certification schemes with a strong focus on one in particular, Green Globe 21, with recommendations for how such schemes can be improved. Readers should note that the analysis of Green Globe 21 presented here relates to the 2000 standard: both the Green Globe 21 process and standard have undergone substantial revision since this analysis was completed. However, much of the wider analysis and recommendations are generic and still highly relevant to the ongoing international debate on tourism certification.
