Taming the Tiger Trade
A lifting or easing of the Chinese ban on the trade of tiger parts and products is likely to be the death sentence for the endangered cat species, according to a new report from TRAFFIC, the wildlife trade monitoring network. A report, Taming the Tiger Trade, warns that those who stand to profit from the tiger trade are putting increasing pressure on the Chinese government to overturn the 1993 ban. This would allow the Chinese to resume domestic trade in captive-bred tiger parts for use in traditional medicine and for clothing.

Setting Priorities for the Conservation and Recovery of Wild Tigers: 2005 - 2015
This report, by scientists with WWF, Wildlife Conservation Society, the Smithsonian's National Zoological Park and Save the Tiger Fund, is the most comprehensive scientific study ever done of the status of tigers and their habitat requirements. It found that tigers now occupy 40 per cent less habitat than they were thought to only a decade ago, and only 7 per cent of their historic range. The study was able to identify 76 tiger conservation landscapes that have the best chance of supporting viable tiger populations in the future.
