British Environment and Media Awards come to an end

After 20 successful years, Media Natura and WWF, organisers of the British Environment and Media Awards (the BEMAs) have decided not to run another event because the awards scheme has achieved what it set out to do.

When the BEMAs were created by Media Natura in 1989, they aimed to put the environment higher up the news agenda by rewarding outstanding journalism in this field. This aim has certainly been achieved, as is shown by the number of media outlets which now have dedicated environmental and science posts, and the growing number of awards being created for environmental journalism.

The Awards, which were presented by WWF since 2001, have also performed an important role in recognising good environmental reporting and campaigning.

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made the BEMAs so special - particularly all our past winners and entrants, as well as our judges.
