Energy
WWF's approach to minimising consumption has paid dividends. During the year our CO2 emissions were approximately 160 tonnes CO2 in total from electricity and gas. The majority of the electricity we consume is from Ecotricity, a renewable energy provider. We have reduced both our electricity and gas consumption.
Performance against FY07 targets
- We narrowly failed to meet the reduction target of 5% for combined gas and electricity consumption over FY06 figures, achieving a 4.1% reduction.
- Our target to 'green' Panda House has only been partially met.
- We have been unable so far to gain planning permission to install a wood-chip boiler for heating in the Scotland office.
- The target to get the landlords of our rented offices to switch to Ecotricity was largely successful.
Targets for FY08
- To reduce overall electricity and gas consumption by a further 5%.
- To maintain our current level of water use per capita.
Electricity
Significantly, we switched our electricity supply to 100% renewably sourced, up from our previous average supply of 23% renewable, as from 1 January 2007.
Gas
Our gas consumption was down for a third year in a row partly because the temperature was an average of 2°C higher than the seasonal mean throughout the year and we benefited from the continued efficiency of our condensing boilers.
Water
We continue to monitor the consumption of water at Panda House based on the invoices we receive from the water supply company.
'Greening' Panda House
Progress on this initiative has been limited. We decided that the two old remaining boilers will not be replaced as they are operating more efficiently than we had expected.
Green IT
During the last year we have introduced several initiatives that reduce the impact that our use of IT facilities has on our environmental footprint. The steps we have taken include:
