Climate Solutions
The world’s climate is changing. And we have a choice.
We can wait passively and deal with the consequences when they happen – or we can be pro-active.
We need to find solutions locally, nationally and globally – so we’ve identified some of the actions that governments, businesses and individuals can take right now.
We can come up with new, innovative and ground-breaking climate solutions that will improve our lives and put us on a path to a more stable climate.
Sustainable Homes
As individuals we can all make a difference by using less energy. This doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy watching our favourite TV show or preparing good food.
One of easiest and most rewarding ways to stop wasting energy is making our homes better insulated. By retrofitting your home and reducing your carbon emission you’ll save money on heating, live in a more comfortable house and help the environment too.
And the government can again play a big part in making it happen, helping homeowners make the changes needed.

Energy
Nationally, the UK needs to invest in renewable energy and build a cleaner, greener source of electricity. Because power stations and electricity transmission lines last for decades, we need to get going on this transformation as quickly as possible, increasing our use of wind, solar and wave energy.
The first step is to make sure there are rules to limit the carbon emissions of power stations, so that new power stations are as efficient as possible. Otherwise we could lock ourselves into polluting power for decades to come.
Toxic Fuels
We also have to phase out the dirtiest fuels like tar sands. These ‘toxic fuels’ are far more polluting than conventional oil, and yet oil companies continue to increase their production.
At the moment, information about the true costs of high-carbon industries isn’t available to investors. Investors need information about the real costs and risks of investing in high-carbon industries. We’re calling for national regulation to make large UK companies report their carbon pollution annually – this will help drive investment into the cleaner industries needed for a low-carbon future.

Global Climate Deal
Globally, we need to keep working for a fair and binding climate deal. The UN summit in Copenhagen showed how hard this is, but we believe it is both essential and possible.
This year we need to see countries acting to rebuild trust between developed and developing nations. Making changes in the UK is part of this process, but richer countries like us also need to provide support for action in developing countries.
