2010 Election
Ask the Climate Question
Thank you! You were part of an unprecedented effort to put climate change on the political agenda at this general election.
Watch this short message of thanks from Margaret Ounsley, our head of public affairs at WWF.
During the election campaign, WWF came together with a coalition of UK environmental and development organisations to Ask the Climate Question of parliamentary candidates.
From nature lovers to students, faith groups and anti-poverty campaigners, thousands of people up and down the country asked their local candidates the climate question: on the doorstep, at over 50 public Climate Question Time meetings, through the local media, and via email, Facebook, and Twitter.
Tens of thousands of you emailed hundreds of candidates in constituencies all across the UK.
Meanwhile, for the first time in an election, we had a Climate Change Day. Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Nick Clegg made public video statements, while their environment spokespeople debated at a question time event in Westminster, covered live by The Guardian. You also helped make sure there was a question on climate change asked in the national TV leaders’ debates.
You made sure our newly elected parliamentarians have heard loud and clear that they must take action to tackle climate change by developing clean energy, a low-carbon economy fit for the future and thousands of new green jobs.
When the newly elected MPs have settled into their roles, we’ll be sending them all a message spelling out what we want the new government to do on climate change.
To add your voice to that call, sign up as an e-campaigner with us and we’ll notify you when it's ready.
