Toxic Fuels Campaign

Our Toxic Fuels campaign, in partnership with The Co-operative Bank, has helped to highlight a big problem. We know the world needs to make the shift to low-carbon living to help control climate change – but this conflicts with the actions of oil and gas companies who want to maintain the status quo.

Unfortunately, maintaining the status quo will mean continued carbon pollution, with increasing environmental and social costs.

Together we can highlight the need for legislation that will make these companies take action and help the world move towards a cleaner, greener future

In the UK, we’re pushing for Mandatory Carbon Disclosure...

for companies that release large amounts of carbon pollution. There is currently no requirement to report on carbon pollution, increasing the future risk to people’s pensions and investments.

In Europe, we are calling for robust legislation...

that would effectively stop the importing of fuel with a high carbon footprint, including fuel derived from tar sands.

Toxic fuels: toxic investments

The future profits of oil companies like BP and Shell will be hit by tighter regulation and increased carbon emissions taxes. This report from WWF and the Co-operative Bank, Insurance and Investments shows how this could cost oil companies tens of billions of pounds – and how it's essential that carbon pollution by carbon-intensive companies is reported in detail so that investment risks can be managed.
