Posted by Anthony Field on 11/10/11 10:49 AM

Today the pressure mounted on the government to introduce mandatory carbon reporting by businesses at the earliest opportunity when the Environmental Audit Committee (EAC) added its strong support.

The committee recommended that the Government introduce the legislation as soon as possible to help tackle climate change.

In highlighting the increased transparency that carbon reporting would bring the Committee’s chair, Joan Walley MP, pointed out the benefit to business: “mandatory emissions reporting will allow companies to make informed choices about where they can make the biggest energy savings and improve efficiency.”

The EAC join over 190 businesses and organisations, 158 MPs and thousands of campaigners in their support.
