Gold pledge – We’ll get active!

We, (Local authority), will ensure that we only buy recycled, certified or sustainable and legal timber products across all our departments

Having done the groundwork, you now commit to making this a permanent requirement by issuing a policy that applies to purchases across all your departments. This will involve issuing a policy, communicating with suppliers and your own staff and implementing the policy and the goal within your local authority.

CPET and WWF will work with you to ensure that the policy is robust and in line with UK government timber procurement policy. We will be available to provide advice and guidance as you implement this policy and can train any staff to which the policy applies. We can also provide model specifications, contract clauses and tender invitation letters, so it is integrated into the procurement process.

We, (Local authority),  will set up a recording and monitoring system to ensure forest products procured meet the requirements of our policy

Once you have published your policy and implemented it within your local authority, the next and final step is to develop systems to record timber purchases and monitor the compliance with the policy. This may only need to be a small sample of all timber procured, but a system of monitoring is a good incentive to ensure compliance among your suppliers.

WWF and CPET can provide your local authority with sample spreadsheets to record timber product purchases and give advice and guidance about what constitutes a good monitoring system.
