How wildlife criminals cheat

Successful smuggling of illegal wildlife products across borders requires the ability to conceal their true nature. The following examples show how criminals have tried to get away with it:

  • rhino horns concealed inside statues
  • stained ivory hidden in wood shipments
  • live hatchlings of rare bird species mixed with shipments of domestic chickens hatchlings
  • suitcases filled with rare birds stuffed in tubes.
