Climate change Young Ambassadors
In June 2008, two UK students, Emma Biermann and Casper ter Kuile, joined WWF's Voyage for the Future programme - a 10 day expedition around the coast of Svalbard in the Norwegian Arctic. Emma and Casper joined sixteen other students from around the world to witness the impacts of climate change first-hand. While in the Arctic, the students learned about climate change science and the global feedback effects associated with rising Arctic temperatures.
The Voyage participants now serve as WWF 'Ambassadors for Change', sharing their knowledge to stimulate broad public support for measures to radically reduce global greenhouse gas emissions.
The Voyage for the Future ambassadors call on the world's governments and business leaders to:
- Take responsibility for creating a secure future for the next generation
- Initiate action to reverse climate change
- Commit to cut emissions and move beyond petroleum
UK Youth Climate Coalition
Since joining WWF’s Voyage for the Future programme, Emma and Casper have set up their own organisation the ‘UK Youth Climate Coalition (UK YCC) which aims to inspire, empower and mobilise a generational movement of young people in the UK to take action on climate change.
UK YCC unites diverse groups of young people to voice their generational concern on climate change.
Emma said: “Thousands of young people across the UK are working in their local community to lead this country into a low-carbon future. A country where energy is forever renewable, society rebuilt and life is better for all of us.”
As part of the UK youth delegation, Emma and Casper are in Poznan, Poland for the UN climate talks. Casper said: “We have no agenda except our own futures. Youth from around the world have been an electrifying presence at these negotiations in previous years, and the UK delegation intends to be just as forceful if the UK government does not show genuine leadership.”

Casper meets Hilary Benn
Casper ter Kuile met the Secretary of State for the Environment, Hilary Benn on 9 July 2008, to tell him about his experience during WWF's Voyage for the Future.
Emma's YouTube question answered
It's not often you get the chance to challenge the prime minister. So WWF-UK's Young Ambassador, Emma Biermann, jumped at the chance when given the opportunity to ask Gordon Brown a question via a You Tube competition.
