Climate adaptation and development

Adaptation is very much the new frontier of the climate change agenda. Climate change impacts are already being felt and will become increasingly severe.  How people and the environment can adapt to unavoidable changes in the climate depends on whether these changes are gradual and continuous or abrupt and extreme. The responsibility to overcome and adapt where possible to climate change impacts requires significant political leadership and commitment.

Climate change adaptation is a key component of the Global Deal, but also has big implications in terms of international financing and development. WWF-UK is at the forefront of network thinking on much of this new and important agenda.

Climate change impacts pose a threat to WWF’s core business, and it is important to embed climate issues into all programmes and projects. Adaptation is also closely linked to WWF’s work on development, supporting low-carbon development pathways and capacity to address climate change in developing countries.

We aim to ensure all WWF conservation programmes around the world have climate impact assessments and adaptation strategies built in from the outset and help define policies and best-practice guidelines that can be adopted more widely.
