BGL Group
Helping to protect tigers in Nepal
In 2010, the Year of the Tiger, WWF-UK and BGL Group launched a two-year partnership with the aim of protecting tigers in Nepal.
BGL Group, one of the UK’s largest personal lines insurance groups, pledged to raise money for WWF-UK that will support critical anti-poaching efforts in and around the three key tiger habitats in Nepal: Suklaphanta Wildlife Reserve, Bardia National Park and Chitwan National Park.
What we're doing
Through the partnership, we are:
- enhancing anti-poaching operations in protected areas;
- improving community-based anti-poaching operations that play a crucial role in stopping poaching in important wildlife corridors;
- controlling the encroachment of tiger habitat; and
- building strong political goodwill.
Why we're doing it
Peter Winslow, group chief executive, BGL Group, says:
“The fact that over 50% of our staff voted for WWF-UK from a selection of three possible charities highlights the importance of WWF’s work in helping to protect wildlife and precious habitats across the globe. We are proud to be supporting such a valuable organisation. The BGL Group takes seriously its corporate social responsibility, which is demonstrated by our commitment to raise £1 million for charities by 2012, and the work we are doing to implement green and environmentally friendly initiatives.“

Tobin Aldrich, director of fundraising, WWF-UK, says:
"We are absolutely delighted to have been chosen by BGL staff to receive this extremely generous £50,000 per year donation to help save the tiger. We're thrilled to be working with BGL employees to raise awareness of the tiger’s plight and, through their activities, to raise even more emergency funds to help save this magnificent and iconic animal.”
