BT
The WWF & BT Green Ambassadors scheme
As sponsor of WWF’s new flagship programme for schools, BT is helping to encourage and support a new generation of sustainability champions. Together we’re helping to empower children across the UK to set up and run their own green teams in school with the support of their teachers.
BT is also committed to delivering direct support to local schools who would like it, and engaging their experienced employee volunteering network across the UK to mentor students taking part.
Young people will shape the future of our world - but they also have a huge influence, here and now. That's why BT and WWF want to inspire and support them in building the knowledge, skills and values they'll use to safeguard our beautiful planet in the years ahead.
What we're doing
The WWF & BT Green Ambassadors scheme provides a range of tools and support materials to set up or reinvigorate a school green team. For example, we're:
- developing children’s capacity to champion green values and action at school, at home and in their communities;
- helping children to work together in effective teams;l
- building their confidence and skills in communication, presentation, planning and evaluation;
- introducing a range of practical ways to act more sustainably – with topics including energy, food, waste, travel, biodiversity and water, each represented by a friendly character;
- enabling peer to peer learning and support; and
- recognising and rewarding good practice.
Why we're doing it
Caroline Waters, BT group director of people and policy, says:
“There is probably no bigger issue currently than that of sustainability and arresting and reversing the impact of climate change.
"We know that education will play an important part in achieving the change we all want to see. One of BT’s priorities is to help young people campaign to create real social change on the issues they are passionate about. That’s why we have developed an education programme that will help us fulfil our commitment to do all we can to promote more effective communication and collaboration, especially among young people, their parents and teachers.
"We are delighted to be working with WWF to deliver the Green Ambassadors programme in schools across the UK. I believe the energy and commitment of young people combined with the dedication and experience of BT’s education volunteers, will create a partnership that will make a big contribution to its success.”
If you know a local primary school that would be interested in taking part in the WWF & BT Green Ambassadors scheme, please spread the word - the primary registration process is now open!
