WWF has a long-standing relationship with the Cooperative Group of businesses, whose values and principles align closely to those of WWF. These engagements include:
- The Co-operative Bank, Insurance and Investments and WWF are partnering on the Toxic Fuels campaign to raise awareness of unconventional fuels - especially Canada’s tar sands - their destructive impact on the local environment and local people as well as their global impacts due to climate change. - The Co-operative Bank, Insurance and Investments and WWF-UK published a high profile report, ‘Unconventional Oil: Scraping the bottom of the barrel?’ which highlighted the environmental, social and financial risk associated with these fuels (July 2008).
- Smile the internet bank (January-September 2006). The Smile bank contract was renewed for an 8-month promotion, with donations of £50 coming to WWF for each current account opened via the WWF-UK website. New customers received a free WWF adoption box, a further £20 income per customer.
- Cooperative Retail (September-December 2004). WWF received a guaranteed £250,000 from an in-store promotion with Co-op Retail, when 380,000 soft-toys of endangered species were sold in more than 2,500 of its stores in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
- Smile the internet bank (July-December 2004). WWF received £50 for every account opened under the slogan “smile: the green internet current bank account". WWF received almost £30,000.
- The Co-operative Bank, Insurance and Investments(October 2003). WWF and The Co-operative Bank, Insurance and Investments partnered on WWF's Chemicals and Health campaign, raising awareness and funding biomonitoring of celebrities, with an estimated value to WWF of over £50,000.
