HSBC - Investing in Nature
In 2002, as part of its global Investing in Nature initiative, HSBC invested £12.7 million in WWF-UK's freshwater programme to help resuscitate three of the world's major rivers and develop a UK model for freshwater management.
Conserving the world's freshwater is one of WWF's key priorities, and HSBC's donation has helped WWF breathe life into three of the world's major rivers. Focusing on the Amazon in Brazil, the Rio Grande on the US/Mexico border and the Yangtze in China the programme has helped to return the natural flow of rivers, secure fresh drinking water for millions of people and protect habitats for fish and other freshwater species. In addition, the programme has also funded many diverse freshwater projects around the UK.

Companies as well as individuals have a responsibility for the stewardship of this planet, which we hold in trust for the future... If we don't act now, by 2025 over 60 percent of the world's population could face a water shortage.
