St Augustine's RC High School

St Augustine's Choir

Over 25 years, St Augustine’s RC High School, nestling in Lancashire’s beautiful Ribble Valley, won an international reputation for using the powerful medium of music to spread messages about poverty, injustice and the environment. Under its then director Peter Rose, its choirs and musicians toured extensively with the powerful WWF musicals  - in the company of celebrities such as Sir David Attenborough, Sting and Sir Michael Hordern, never failing to win standing ovations in prestigious venues such as the Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, and Barbican in London, Manchester’s Free Trade Hall, Bridgewater Hall and Palace Theatre, Liverpool’s Philharmonic Hall - and the Kennedy Centre in Washington DC.

St Augustine’s outstanding musical partnership with WWF-UK has indeed become legendary; and thus the school was delighted to receive the invitation from the RBKC to take part in their premiere performance of One Sun, One World.

Since 2005, the choir has been directed by St Augustine’s Head of Music, Toni Hudson.  Toni is herself a distinguished ex-member of the choir and will long be remembered for her stunning performances as the Jaguar in the 1988 USA production of Yanomamo and as the mother whale in the 1990 Festival Hall performance of Ocean World.
