The Writers Challenge
Narration challenge for years 5 and 6
Pupils in years 5 and 6 have been set a challenge using the narrations from One Sun One World.
The narrations tell the story of One Sun One World. However, the language used may not be accessible to younger pupils. In order for the environmental message to be widely understood, pupils have been asked to rewrite the narrations so they can be easily understood by pupils of year 2 to year 4.
This project offers a wonderful opportunity for children to apply their skills in writing in a real context. The best submissions will be featured in the Souvenir Programme, on this website and will be distributed to schools for their younger children.
Journalists challenge
A second part of this writers’ challenge is the ‘Journalists Challenge’ which will take place next term. In September, schools will receive materials, written by professional writers, which will support pupils in writing reviews of the ‘One Sun One World’ performance on 22nd October. Again schools will be asked to submit the best of these to the organising committee who will make a selection for publication. Schools will be asked to appoint journalists who will attend the performance for this purpose. More details for this project will follow in September.
Both these projects provide exciting opportunities for pupils to write for a purpose and understand the power that writing can have in their everyday lives.
