Bousfield Primary School

Art

Bousfield's Art Coordinator attended the art INSET day with Billie Evans and this inspired a range of work within the school.

Each class has a sculpture theme linking to work covered in the ’Mantle of The Expert’ week and indirectly to One Sun One World. Year 4 are making ‘Movies’ about the problems of tiger poaching in India. Year 1 designed and made ‘Chameleon Carriers’ to transport rescued animals back to Madagascar.

Singing

The year 5 classes are rehearsing for One Sun One World performance. A music workshop by the English Chamber Orchestra and Royal College of Music was delivered to pupils in year 1 with the theme of pandas.

Creative curriculum

Bousfield painting

During curriculum week, the school used the ‘Mantle of the Expert’ approach which involves setting up an imaginary scenario then introducing a dilemma or problem that the children have to become experts in to help them solve the problem. This approach uses drama to explore themes and ideas.

Assemblies in the school are also being themed around the endangered species. Each week the assembly focuses on a different species.

Literacy

The creative writing group is taking on 'The Writing Challenge'.

The Year 4 children have also written some poems on the tiger.

Tiger
Devious, cunning
Creeping, pouncing, devouring,
A prince of the forest
Predator.

-----------
Tiger
Fierce fatal
Cunning, growling, sparring
A fatal ball striking its prey
Predator

---------
Tiger
Fast, stripy
Roaring, attacking, hearing,
A jungle killer, chasing shadows,
Prince

"We have used the themes of endangered animals and conservation as starting points for a lot of curriculum work in the last two terms.  In September we will relate more to specific One Sun One World themes."
