Oxford Gardens Primary School
Art
The weekly art club have been hard at work in work linked to One Sun One World!
Years 1 and 2 have engaged in creating drawings for ‘strangely evolved’ creatures including a ‘leaf winged bee’ and a ‘whiskered eyed Ladybird’. They are also involved in the process of finishing off a ‘Giant African Snail’ which is golden and multicoloured with metal wings. A feathers insect is also near completion using plastic bags, cardboard and paper and chicken wire, Years 3 and 4 have just started with art.
Years 3 and 4 wanted to create a strangely evolved Giraffe. The main body/legs have been sculptured from newspaper and cardboard tubing. The children will decide on the final colours and whether their magical creature will have wings, whiskers or feathers.
Years 5 and 6 will engage in the project later.
Children named their drawings and had the following ideas for their creations:
Year 1 and 2
The Elephant Horned Sticky Wing - Anas
The Bow-legged Ants – Rashida
The very colourful Spider Buttertfly Ant – Ortum
The Whiskered Eye Ladybird – Emily
The Leafed-winged Bee - Yasmine
The Shield Spider – Hem
Singing
A selction/group of children have been singing a collection of songs from the One Sun One Worlds songs. Regular singing lessons are in order to boost children's singing skills and self confidence.
Why take part?
One Sun One World has been a wonderful opportunity to get the children invoved in a 3D sculpture project that celebrates the natural beauty of animals and creatures but also allows children to be creative in their approach whilst using their imaginations to create these sculptures that will live in and around the school.
This project should be continual celebration of our planet and I hope to continue the art club on in September with the support of the parents/carers.
In regards to the singing, children have been engaging in singing groups which creates a great sense of community.
Year 4 exclaimed "We can make a huge Unicorn giraffe to welcome us at the front gate!"
Year 5 and 6 should be taking part in the writers challenge.
A brillant idea to incorporate music, art, drama and Literacy in order to celebrate the wonderful beauty of our world.
A wonderfully uplifting challenge amongst all the paperwork and day to day stuff.
A great way to enhance a variety of skills that is accessible to all.
