Servite Primary School
Art
Pupils from foundation stage have been exploring marine issues.
Key stage 1 have been investigating the wonderful world of different animals and their habitats. They made animal fact books about their favourite animals. In the Key Stage 1 Art club they made stained glass windows.
Key Stage 2 have been drawing and making sculptures about what they think the world could look like if we do not take action to save our planet.
Singing
The Key Stage 2 choir has been learning the songs from One Sun One World. They practice once a week and the children are really enjoying the songs. The whole of Key Stage 2 have also learnt some songs which has linked to relevant environmental issues being covered in class. The children are amazed by the sheer number of animals they have never heard of that are mentioned in the songs and have become curious they are to learn more.
Creative music and drama workshops
Year 1 pupils from Servite Primary School were lucky enough to work with the English Chamber Orchestra and the Royal College of Music on a creative music and drama workshop. This resulted in a a wonderful class concert of 'Polar bears' and 'Other Tall Tales'. The children really benefited from working with the musicians and throughly enjoyed the experience.
Creative curriculum
As part of a creative curriculum, the school have tried to cover topics that can be tied in with One Sun One World. In Key Stage 1, they learnt about animals and the wonderful ecosystems of the ocean. In Key Stage 2, they explored topics such as Keen to be Green, Town and Country, and even Robots.
Why take part?
"One Sun One World is a great opportunity, not only for our musical children to sing in a great venue with world-class musicians, but for the whole school to get invovled and learn about the issues that affect our planet. This is of the utmost importance in the times we live and we at Servite Primary School can't think of any better way to educate our children in this regard, than through music and the whole One Sun One World project. By taking the message of One Sun One World to the children of London, the effect will ripple through the community and hopefully start healing our planet one small step at a time."
