Scrumptious seasonal recipes that won’t cost the Earth
11 August 2009
Girls have cooked up some delicious seasonal recipes made with local ingredients as part of the One Planet Challenge.
Thinking about what we eat and making smart shopping choices can make a big difference to wildlife, habitats and people around the world – and locally grown, seasonal food is the best choice we can make.
Some facts
- The food we eat in the UK accounts for more than one-fifth of our total greenhouse gas emissions – contributing to the global warming which threatens both people and the natural world.
- One in 10 products on our supermarket shelves contain palm oil – you’ll find it in everything from toothpaste to biscuits. Tropical forests are being chopped down to meet the demand for palm oil – and orang-utans could be extinct within 15 years as a result.
