‘Name a polar bear’ competition – extended
23 June 2010
Here’s a great competition for anyone aged 7-14. Canon, our long-term conservation partner, is offering youngsters across Europe a chance to suggest a name for a real live polar bear – and win a Canon camera too. And the competition's been extended to the end of August - so you still have time to win!
To enter the competition, anyone aged 7-14 can go to the WWF-Canon Kids’ Zone website, answer a few simple questions, and then suggest names for two of the female polar bears that live in the Arctic habitat WWF is helping to protect.

The two favourite entries from across Europe will be selected and featured on the website. Both winners will receive a Canon camera and a special visit to their school from a WWF expert. Three other runners-up will receive a Canon camera.
Closing date for the competition is now 31 August 2010.
About Canon, WWF and polar bears
As part of our partnership, Canon supports WWF’s Polar Bear Tracker programme in the Arctic. Tagging polar bears – fitting radio collars and tracking their movements – helps scientists learn important information by observing the animals in their natural habitat.
There are more than 22,000 polar bears in the Arctic, but climate change is putting their habitat under increased threat. Scientists predict that more than 30% of polar bears will disappear in the next 35-50 years.
The ‘Name a polar bear’ competition is exclusive to the WWF-Canon Kids’ Zone website, which uses educational games, trivia and fact sheets to inform young people about the issues and challenges of climate change – and how they can personally make a difference by reducing their own impact on the environment.
