The government's consultation on banning UK sales of ivory has now closed.
If you haven't already, you can still sign our petition to help stop the elephant poaching crisis
This calls on the UK government to take a stand for elephants by:
- Banning the elephant ivory trade in the UK
- Using UK political influence to ensure that key ivory markets overseas are shut down
- Calling for sentencing guidelines in England and Wales to ensure that wildlife trade criminals are effectively punished
WHAT TYPE OF IVORY BAN WOULD WWF ACCEPT?
We’re campaigning for the closure of the UK’s ivory market with minimal exemptions. This means we would accept a small number of tightly controlled exemptions for historical items such as musical instruments or museum pieces, or where the ivory is a small portion of the item, for which trade would not threaten wild elephants.
Now the consultation has closed the government will review all responses. We’ll let you know the results, and we will push to make the ban a reality within a year’s time.
