Right now, the UK is deciding on trade deals that will impact our climate, our health and the health of the planet – for generations to come.
We must not allow our future health and security to be risked by trade deals that destroy the planet and go against the UK’s high environmental standards.
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the way that deforestation, habitat destruction and intensive farming are driving humans and wildlife into ever closer contact. That in turn is creating the perfect conditions for the next virus to spill over from wildlife to humans, and the next global pandemic.
We need to make sure the products we import through these trade deals, like soy, beef and palm oil, don’t rely on unsustainable farming, destroying nature and animals being kept in disease-ridden conditions. If we don’t, the UK will be complicit in the next public health crisis.
We’re asking you to write to the people who have the power to put these promises in law – the Secretary of State for International Trade and the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
