WWF today commented on the Government’s consultation, launched today (27 February), by Environment Secretary Michael Gove titled “The future for food, farming and the environment".

Tony Juniper, WWF Executive Director of Advocacy & Campaigns, said:

It’s welcome that the UK Government wants to build a farming system that contributes to a healthier planet. To do that though, we have to think locally, by restoring our wildlife and stopping agricultural run-off polluting our rivers. But also globally, to make sure the soy being fed to our livestock isn’t driving the deforestation in Amazon rainforest. We shouldn’t outsource the environmental costs of our lifestyle.”
