Commenting on the release of the interim assessment by the National Infrastructure Commission, Fabrice Leveque, Energy Specialist at WWF said:

“Today’s announcement that energy efficiency should be made a priority for infrastructure spending is great news for homes. One in four pounds spent heating our homes is wasted and that’s bad for people’s bills and worse for our climate. Combined with yesterday’s Clean Growth Strategy we are at last getting to a place where we will be able to tackle these damaging emissions.

“Nevertheless the Commission’s obsession with Heathrow is a huge worry. They have ignored the very damaging environmental impacts of aviation and offered no proper solutions or mitigations to the problems. Unless the UK Government fully addresses this inconsistency, and presents a proper plan in dealing with aviation emissions, it is likely that we will miss our international climate obligations.”
