Super-fruity
butterfly feeder
Give colourful garden insects a treat with this easy snack stop
You will need
- Shallow glass jar or pot (it can’t have high sides or the butterflies can’t get in!)
- Decorative sticky tape
- String
- Really ripe fruit (bananas, oranges, berries – whatever you can find!)

Step one
Decorate the jar using the coloured tape. You can use paint or pens if you don’t have any tape.

Step two
Cut a piece of string about 40cm long. Tie one end tightly around the neck of the jar, leaving one end long.

Step three
Cut another piece of string the same length as the first. Again, tie one end around the jar, but with the knot opposite the first one.

Step four
Tie the two long ends together at the top to make a hanging loop.

Step five
Pile your really ripe fruit into the jar. The squishier the better!

Step six
Hang the jar up in your garden for the butterflies to enjoy. Make sure it’s somewhere sheltered from the wind and rain, and out of the way of animals like cats.
