WWF – CB7 vote comes as record temperatures signal scorching reminder of urgent need to tackle climate change
Rick Parfett, WWF’s Head of Climate Policy, said:
“As temperature records are smashed and Britain swelters, today’s carbon budget vote takes place amid a scorching reminder of the urgent need to tackle climate change. This week's dangerous heat is a red warning of the threats facing people, wildlife and nature. The science is clear that reaching net zero emissions is the only way to bring our climate back into balance and tackle soaring temperatures.
“Progress will also bring huge benefits in the here and now, with more comfortable homes, stable energy bills, a booming economy, and thriving nature. Government has shown leadership by setting an ambitious 7th Carbon Budget - now they must follow it up with ambitious and rapid delivery."
